Salesian Lay Missioners arrive in PGS

My name is Stephen Stafstrom, 21 years old. I come from Florida, USA. I graduated last May 2018 from University of Central Florida. I volunteered as a salesian lay missionary to PNG.Arriving here God has further confirmed this call to mission through the support, kindness and welcome of the people and the Salesian community. PNG is beautiful and everyday I am fascinated anew by something unique and wonderful.

I recognise that I may have more to receive than to give. I desire to continue to grow in humility and to understand more intimately the value of community. I hope in service to increase my dependence on God and build the virtues of charity and love.

My name is Matthew Nguyen. I come from Texas, USA. I graduated at St. Matthews University in 2017. My parents were originally from Vietnam but I was born and raised in the USA. If mission is a call, I had the opportunity to answer. Papua New Guinea responded with a resounding ‘Hello!’ I’m extremely excited to continue the conversation with our Lord as meet him in every person that offers me welcome and love.

To be able to just live with my brothers and sisters here helped me realize that God was here before me in this place. He is just asking me to experience his love and mercy in a new way.

Don Bosco

Don Bosco was creative, enthusiastic and enterprising in his work. He wrote and edited booklets, school texts, histories, digests, magazines, fliers, plays. From his earliest years as a priest, Don Bosco communicated through his whole demeanour and person, through games, talking, visiting, preaching, and publishing. Communicating through the internet and publishing is a priority for Salesians. Inspired by this example of Don Bosco and the early Salesians, Social Communication continues an important priority.
