PNG Learning Centres

Papua New Guinea, with its many scattered islands, remote communities and a fast growing population is facing considerable challenges providing adequate education facilities for children and students. This includes basic education, water supply, sanitation and hygiene facilities. We the Salesians of Don Bosco are keen to provide basic education to the most disadvantaged children in the Gulf Province. With the establishment of three Learning Centres (kindergartens), in three different villages, the children in the area have a hope in pursuing quality education. Despite of the many difficulties and challenges, the Salesian community continues to remain and serve the people of the area with hope.

Every centre offers the programs for three levels: level one – for the children at the age of 5, level 2 – for the age of 6 and level 3 – for the age of 7. Each centre has three local teachers teaching at the three levels. These learning centres remains as charitable service centres providing basic education to the children at grassroots level in responds to the needs of the locality. The centres provide all the necessary materials for both the children and the teachers. The Learning Centres have been offering services since 2013, bringing a great impact to the people in the mission area.
