Over 900 plus students of Don Bosco Technical School celebrated the Mass of the Holy Spirit on the 14th of February 2020, in their school gym in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. The Mass was presided by Fr. Pedro Sachitula, SDB, the newly installed Rector of the school. Before the Mass, opportunities for confessions were made available to the students by Fr Angelo Fazzini, SDB and Fr Eduardo Revilla, SDB.
The Mass of Holy Spirit officially opened the school year 2020. In the Holy Spirit Mass, Fr Pedro, SDB highlighted two very import questions in his homily “What is the role of the Holy Spirit in your life?” and “What gifts would you like to receive?” The salesian priest underscored that the Holy Spirit is the “first educator”, for He instructs the hearts of the faithful and forms in us the image of Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit, the homilist continued, enables us to know and do the will of God, thus if we want to be “good christians and honest citizens” we need to invoke the guidance of the Holy Spirit. One of the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit is Fortitude. Thus, Bosconians were encouraged to be strong and persevering in portraying self-control in their own communities.
The mass was grand and all 900 plus students and Salesian Educators joyfully joined voices in singing throughout the mass.
After the Holy Spirit Mass, the Salesian Family and Educators were introduced to the students. Also, the Salesian Educators pledged their loyalty to their profession. The next activity for the day was the awarding of the following- perfect in attendance, service awards to exemplary students, academic excellence and technical excellence awards.
The atmosphere was filled with joy and love and the students really felt Don Boscos’ presence amongst them. The day ended with a light refreshment of ice cream and coffee rolls for all.
