Fr. Angel Fernandez Artime re-elected
11 March 2020 – Fr. Angel Fernández Ártime SDB was re-elected as Rector Major for the second six-year period by the members of the 28th General Chapter of the Salesians currently being held in Valdocco, Turin, Italy. “Please pray for me. Pray for us. … I will also pray for you!” were his first message to all the members of the Salesian Family after his re-election.
New Rector of Provincial House
Feb 29, 2020, Boroko East – Fr. Srimal Gajasinhage Silva SDB was installed as the new Rector of the Salesian Community of the Provincial House during the Eucharist at the Shrine of Mary Help of Christians presided by Fr. Dominic Kachira, Vice Provincial. Fr. Srimal is also the new Provincial Economer of the Vice Province of Blessed Philip Rinaldi and in-charge of the Planning and Development Office (Don Bosco Missions)
DB Kumgi Inagurates the New School Year
Kumgi, Chimbu Province, 21 February 2020 – More than 500 students and staff of Don Bosco Simbu Technical College (DBSTC) gathered at the Diocesan Shrine of Saint John Bosco for the Mass of the Holy Spirit and the official opening of the School Year 2020. Salesians’ 28th General Chapter
Feb 16, 2020 – 243 Salesian brothers and priests gathered for their General Chapter in Valdocco, Italy, the place where Don Bosco started his ministry to young people. The General Chapter is a gathering every 6 years of Provincials and representatives of 14,200 Salesians coming from 132 countries working in 1,800 schools, parishes, technical training centres, oratories and missions. The 28th General Chapter will set directions and priorities for the Salesians in the next 6 years. It will also elect the Rector Major and the General Councillors. It will last for 7 weeks and will conclude on April 4, 2020.
DBTS – Holy Spirit Mass
Over 900 plus students of Don Bosco Technical School celebrated the Mass of the Holy Spirit on the 14th of February 2020, in their school gym in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. The Mass was presided by Fr. Pedro Sachitula, SDB, the newly installed Rector of the school. Before the Mass, opportunities for confessions were made available to the students by Fr Angelo Fazzini, SDB and Fr Eduardo Revilla, SDB. 8 College Aspirants
Last Jan 31, feast of St. John Bosco 8 college aspirants were admitted to continue their aspirantate experience. In a simple rite the Provincial, Fr. Alfred Maravilla, entrusted each one to the care of the Savio Haus Rector, Fr. Dominic Kachira, and the accompaniment team.
New Rectors Installed
Feb 11, 2020 – During the Eucharist in the Provincial House Chapel the Provincial, Fr. Alfred Maravilla, installed the 5 new Rectors: Fr. Casper Charles (DB Henderson); Fr. Pankaj Xalxo (DB Araimiri); Fr. Angel Sanchez (DB Kumgi); Fr. Pedro Sachitula (DB Gabutu); Fr. Moïse Paluku (DB Rapolo). During his homily the Provincial exhorted them to animate and govern consciously aware that the goal of the ministry of Rector is to do God’s will and endure the charismatic identity of our presences.
New Salesian Lay Missionary Volunteer from the Czech Republic
Feb 10, 2020 – Jaroslav Strasak, a Salesian Lay Missionary Volunteer from the Czech Republic has arrived in Port Moresby. At present he is undergoing a week of orientation in the Provincial House before proceeding to Don Bosco Araimiri in the Gulf Province.
