The Salesian Family Council had their first meeting for 2019 last Feb 9. It was held at the FMA residence at Boroko East. The agenda was mainly to prepare for the Salesian Family Day to be held on March 23 at the Caritas Technical Secondary School. The Salesian Family Council aims at fostering communion and sharing among the different groups of the Salesian Family. It meets twice a year.
Salesian Cooperators’ Kokopo Unit had their Outreach & Apostolate Last 27 Jan 2019 at St. Francis Xavier Church, Rabaul to offer free test on blood pressure and blood sugar, and catechize the children. Fr. Allan, the Parish Priest, assisted during their outreach and apostolate program for the first month of 2019.
Last January 22, 2019 Fr. Alfred Maravilla and Br. Reto Wanner went to the Generalate of the Salesian Oblates of the Sacred Heart to meet Mother Graziella Benghini OSSC and some members of the General Council to discuss the invitation of the PGS Vice-Province to collaborate with the Salesians in the new parish entrusted to the Salesians by his Grace Archbishop Francesco Panfilo SDB of Rabaul.
Last Dec 14, 2018 the Rector Major, Fr. Angel Fernandéz Artime has accepted the request of Archbishop of Rabaul to entrust to the Salesians the new parish that will be created when the Cathedral parish of Vunapope will be divided. The new parish that will be created will initially be composed of the communities of Palnakaur, Livuan, Bitagalip, Kabaleo, Ramale and Katakatai. The Rector Major had asked as well that a congregation of sisters belonging to the Salesian Family be invited to work with us.

Dec.26,2018 – Boxing Day, Vunabosco. The Salesian Cooperators Kokopo Unit gathered together in Vunabosco gym 75 families of 3 Villages in ENBP to share with them gifts for Christmas. There were games, music and dancing too, The villagers, in turn offered the Cooperators the fruit of their harvests as a token of appreciation.
The Pan Oceanic Bank (POB) chief executive officer Kumar Wickramaarachchi has pledged to continue supporting Don Bosco Technical Institute meet the needs of marginalised children. He made the assurance during POB staff’s Christmas visit last weekend to meet the marginalised children living around the Ranadi dumpsite. The Salesians of Don Bosco PDO has a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program with the marginalised children, and POB is partner to that program.
Peter Suka Ririma of DBTS Gabutu receives the International Contribution Award
The Australian Catholic University (ACU) bestowed the ‘International Contribution Award’ 2018 to Peter Suka Ririma, a teacher of Don Bosco Technical School at Gabutu. The ACU gives this award to its graduates who are working in his/her country in their fields of studies such as teaching, counselling, nursing, social works and others.
