On November 5, 2018 the Solemnity of Christ the King, 4 aspirants received their missionary cross from the PGS Provincial, Fr. Alfred Maravilla, at the Holy Name of Jesus mission Parish in Bomana, at the outskirts of Port Moresby. It was a fitting setting because the aspirants come here to animate the Sunday liturgy. The SRC (Student Representative Council) of Don Bosco Technical Institute, Henderson put on their thinking caps to arrange a fun celebration for the teachers of DBTI. The celebrations started with the Students lining the sides of the Gymnasium as teachers walked in to the sounds of cheers and clapping, the students then hung garlands of flowers around the teachers’ necks to show honour and appreciation. On Friday, 12 October 2018, the Apostolic Nuncio to Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands (the Holy Father’s Representative in PNG and SI), His Excellency Most Reverend Kurian Matthew Vayalunkal of India, visited our Don Bosco Institute where he concelebrated morning Mass in the DBTI Henderson Chapel and shared a morning talk to all the students at the assembly. 124 students from 7 trades graduated at DBTI on Friday, 19th October 2018. 28 others are expected to graduate privately before the end of the year, when they complete the requirements of the OJT (On-the-Job training). The trades of specialization were Automotive, Construction, Electrical, Machine Fitting and Maintenance, Life Skills, Information Computer Technology and Fabrication-Welding. The theme chosen for this year’s graduation was “Successful Yet Faithful”.
On Sunday 11th November 2018, the Catholic Teachers Sodality gathered at Don Bosco Technical Institute Henderson to bring the year of activities to a closure. On Saturday 17 November 2018, the Salesians of Don Bosco in Solomon Islands organized the second Come and See program for this year. The ultimate goal of the Come-and-See program is to allow young people to feel at home at Don Bosco, learn about the Salesian life and know that it is a good place to continue your personal faith journey and decide if religious life is for you.
